Barrenjoey Headland Conservation Management Plan

Barrenjoey Lighthouse and its setting on the headland above Palm Beach north of Sydney are of state heritage significance. The site has Aboriginal and European cultural values, which are legible in the landscape and demonstrate the changing uses of the site.

This conservation management plan (CMP) for Barrenjoey Lighthouse was endorsed in 2013. It supplements the conservation management and cultural tourism plan prepared for NPWS lighthouses in 2001 and the CMP prepared for the Barrenjoey Lighthouse suite of buildings (excluding the Fishermen’s and Boatman’s cottages) in 1994. 

This CMP guides the management of this historic site to allow for recreation and tourism whilst maintaining its heritage significance .

The Barrenjoey Headland Conservation Manual accompanies this CMP. The conservation manual identifies catch-up maintenance works, refurbishment work and a cyclic maintenance schedule to guide management of the buildings of Barrenjoey Headland.
