Bushfire Risk Management Research Hub

The Hub researched ways to improve fire management strategies and reduce the risk bushfires pose to people, property and the environment. It was set up for policy makers, planners and managers to work alongside academics so findings could be shared, and significant outcomes applied without delay.

The Hub host, the University of Wollongong, led a team of world-class experts from Western Sydney University, the University of New South Wales, the University of Tasmania and NSW fire management agencies.

The Bushfire Risk Management Research Hub had 6 major projects:

• Dynamic mapping of fire regimes, past, present and future
• Fuel, flammability and carbon dynamics
• Greenhouse gasses, particulate emissions and air quality
• Fire regime guidelines for conservation of threatened species
• Indigenous cultural burning: Exploring the links between cultural revitalisation and wellbeing
• Optimising cost-effective bushfire risk mitigation via planned burning.
