New England peppermint woodland on sediments in the New England Tableland Bioregion - rejection of endangered ecological community listing

The Scientific Committee established by the Threatened Species Conservation Act has made a Final Determination to reject a proposal to list the New England Peppermint (Eucalyptus nova-anglica) Woodland on Sediments in the New England Tableland Bioregion, as an ENDANGERED ECOLOGICAL COMMUNITY in Part 3 of Schedule 1 of the Act. Rejection of a proposal is provided for by Part 2 of the Act.

Note: This Determination has been superseded by the 2013 Determination - Critically endangered ecological community.

NSW Scientific Committee - final determination

The Scientific Committee has found that:

1. The New England Peppermint (Eucalyptus nova-anglica) Woodland on Sediments in the New England Tableland Bioregion was identified by Benson and Ashby (2000) who list the assemblage of vascular plant species occurring in this vegetation association.

2. There are few data from another vegetation association identified by Benson and Ashby (2000), New England Peppermint (Eucalyptus nova-anglica) Woodland on Basalt. However, the Scientific Committee considers that the assemblage of species making up this association is very similar to that found in New England Peppermint ( Eucalyptus nova-anglica) Woodland on Sediments and that the two associations form parts of the same ecological community.

3. In view of the above the Scientific Committee has decided to reject the proposal to list the New England Peppermint (Eucalyptus nova-anglica) Woodland on Sediments in the New England Tableland Bioregion, as an Endangered Ecological Community and proposes to make a preliminary determination to support a proposal to list the New England Peppermint ( Eucalyptus nova-anglica) Woodland on Basalts and Sediments in the New England Tableland Bioregion, as an Endangered Ecological Community.
