Land clearing approvals

We help support Local Land Services and councils to manage the framework for land clearing.

What is land clearing?

Land clearing includes cutting down, felling, thinning, logging, removing, killing, destroying, poisoning, ringbarking, uprooting or burning native vegetation.

In certain specific circumstances, clearing native vegetation does not require approval.

Who manages approvals for land clearing?

Local Land Services manage approvals for clearing native vegetation in rural areas.

Your local council manages approvals for clearing of native vegetation in urban areas and land zoned for environmental protection.
