The National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) grants a range of biodiversity conservation licences under the Biodiversity Conservation Act 2016 (BC Act) to regulate interactions between humans and native wildlife.
The public register lists biodiversity conservation licences that cover a range of activities, including:
- keeping of native animals
- interstate import or export of protected animals
- scientific, conservation and educational activities that involve native wildlife.
Search for wildlife licences
The public register contains information about wildlife licences administered since 25 August 2017, following commencement of the BC Act. This includes licences that have been granted, renewed, suspended, cancelled or surrendered since that time.
The register is available as an Excel spreadsheet and is updated about every 12 months: Current public register of wildlife licences (XLS 5.5MB).
When you open the spreadsheet, click on the tabs at the bottom of the spreadsheet to view information about different types of licences.
Licence conditions
The rights conferred by a biodiversity conservation licence are in many cases subject to conditions. The conditions for different types of wildlife licences include:
