Pultenaea stuartiana (a shrub) - removal from vulnerable species list

The Scientific Committee, established by the Threatened Species Conservation Act, has made a Final Determination to remove Pultenaea stuartiana Williamson from the Schedules of the Act by omitting reference to this species from Schedule 2 (Vulnerable species). The omission of species from the Schedules is provided for by Part 2 of the Act.

NSW Scientific Committee - final determination

The Scientific Committee has found that:

1. Pultenaea stuartiana Williamson (family Fabaceae) is the name given to a small shrubby pea with a restricted geographic distribution in the Torrington to Silent Grove region.

2. Pultenaea stuartiana is currently recognised as a Vulnerable species on Schedule 2 of the Threatened Species Conservation Act.

3. A recent taxonomic revision by de Kok and West (2002) has included Pultenaea stuartiana within  Pultenaea foliolosa A. Cunn. ex Benth.  Pultenaea foliolosa is found in dry sclerophyll forest and woodland over a wide geographic range from Victoria to Queensland and it is not considered to be threatened. In NSW it is found chiefly on the ranges and slopes west to the Barradine district.

4. Pultenaea foliolosa does not satisfy the criteria for listing as a vulnerable species.

5. In view of the above the Scientific Committee is of the opinion that  Pultenaea stuartiana is no longer eligible to be listed as a vulnerable species in Schedule 2 of the Act.
