Rural lands in NSW are currently being mapped according to two different land classification systems. The first of these, used by the Soil Conservation Service of NSW, classifies land into eight classes known as Land Capability Classes. The second system, which is outlined in the Rural Land Evaluation Manual and used by the NSW Department of Agriculture, classifies land into five classes known as Agricultural Suitability Classes.
