Armidale City to Soil

Armidale’s City to Soil Project is a community owned and operated program that composts garden and food waste.

James Turnell (Manager for Waste and Drainage) talks about the project and explains the evolution of the program. James also shares how the community was engaged to ensure success and how changes of behaviour have resulted in direct benefits for the process and the gardens of the area.

Brookfarm

Brookfarm is one of Australia’s leading producers of gourmet macadamia products. Already a sustainability leader, Brookfarm wanted a clean energy strategy to ensure its rapid growth remains sustainable.

This case study highlights the value of taking a strategic approach to clean energy initiatives, using a clean energy strategy to guide business decisions, as well as the value of setting ambitious targets.

Brookfarm is now working towards an energy productivity target and an ambitious target of operating with 100% renewable energy by 2025.

De Bortoli Wines

De Bortoli Wines is aiming to be Australia’s first ‘Zero Waste Winery’. The winery has identified clean energy targets and measures that will support achievement of its zero-waste vision. This includes going ‘beyond the fence line’ to assist households in the Riverina reduce their energy consumption and transition to renewable energy. The drivers for De Bortoli Wines include reducing exposure to increases in electricity and gas prices and improving its reputation by creating a sustainable legacy for future generations.

Stone & Wood is a start-up micro-brewery with manufacturing operations in Byron Bay and Murwillumbah. Stone & Wood is adopting a comprehensive clean energy strategy that will support its reputation as a sustainability leader as it continues to grow its business.

As a rapidly growing business Stone & Wood faces the challenge of balancing its investment in growth with the operational and reputational benefits of clean energy initiatives. To balance these important objectives, Stone & Wood will continue to develop and review its strategy.
