The construction of the fourth and final stage of the Snowies Alpine Walk, which links Perisher Valley and Bullocks Flat in Kosciuszko National Park, is nearing completion and is set to be officially opened in early December 2024. This new 12 km section includes over 1.3 km of steel platforms and staircases to protect vulnerable and waterlogged soils, allowing more vegetation to grow and enabling safe animal movement through the landscape.
The finishing touches
In recent months, contractors and National Parks and Wildlife Service staff have been putting the final additions on the final stage of the 56-km, multi-day walk. Seating has been installed along each stage of the walk (except for the Main Range Loop), offering walkers the opportunity to rest and enjoy scenic locations. Additionally, the construction of a new timber viewing platform on the Thredbo Valley escarpment offers stunning views over Lake Jindabyne and the Thredbo Valley.
The Perisher Valley track head, now with upgraded parking, signage, and other facilities, is open to the public. The new track head and turning circle at Guthega have also been completed to set you off on your multi-day journey, while the Bullocks Flat precinct has been upgraded with improved signage, seating, and landscaping to conclude the walk.

A big thank you
We would like to thank and acknowledge the dedication and hard work of the 41 suppliers who have been engaged to help deliver the Perisher Valley to Bullocks Flat section, focusing on engaging small businesses and suppliers from within the local region. This section of the walk is on track to meet its $10 million budget and will complement the $17.17 million spent across the other sections of the Snowies Alpine Walk.
These suppliers and contractors have been instrumental in bringing this project to fruition, ensuring that it meets the highest standards and provides an exceptional experience for all exploring this iconic national park.
Please note that the final section of the Snowies Alpine Walk is scheduled to be opened to the public in early December 2024. Always check National Parks and Wildlife Service alerts for the latest closure information and notifications before visiting Kosciuszko National Park.
