Queens Lake Nature Reserve and Queens Lake State Conservation Area Plan of Management

The parks contribute to the aesthetic character of the coastal villages of Bonny Hills and Lake Cathie. The forested slopes and rocky escarpment surrounding Jolly Nose Hill are an attractive and well recognised feature of the local landscape and support a diverse range of plant communities and plant and animal species. The reserves are popular for recreational activities, including bushwalking, birdwatching, horse riding and cycling, and have important shared and cultural heritage values.

The plan of management will assist in managing recreational activities to enhance visitor experience while protecting the important values. The plan will enable the development of a mountain biking strategy to formalise and upgrade some of the tracks within clearly defined zones in the state conservation area. The strategy will be subject to public exhibition periods as well as relevant environmental and cultural assessments.

A small area in the north-eastern section of Queens Lake State Conservation Area was burnt in the 2019–20 fires as part of a back-burning operation; however, no changes were required to the plan as a result of the fires.

This is the first plan of management for this park.
