The NSW Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water and its predecessor agencies have been researching and monitoring kangaroo populations in New South Wales and managing the NSW Commercial Kangaroo Management Program since the 1970s.

This report provides the 2024 population estimates for red kangaroos, eastern and western grey kangaroos, and the common wallaroo, and the corresponding commercial harvesting quotas for 2025. Historical population and harvest data are provided in the appendix.

The total quota available for commercial harvesting in 2025 is 2,186,952 kangaroos. There is also a maximum special quota of 208,659 that may be made available in specific circumstances.
