We hold licences under the Protection of the Environment Operations Act 1997 to manage treatment systems and pump houses in national parks that collect and treat waste water from visitor centres, resorts and tourist parks. Sewage overflows can occur and result in waste water being discharged into nearby creeks or waterways.
These environment protection licences require us to produce pollution incident response management plans and report annually on monitoring data for the discharge of water into a park.
Monitoring water quality within the catchments of sewage treatment plants and the collection and reporting of data are required under the environment protection licences we hold and to protect the natural ecosystems in our national parks.
