Nungatta, in South East Forest National Park, is one of 10 sites comprising the feral predator-free network, one of the most significant threatened fauna and ecological restoration projects in NSW history.
Of the 10 feral predator-free areas, 7 are being established by the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service, while the other 3 areas are already operational and managed through partnerships with the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service.
Nungatta feral predator-free area will involve a fenced area of 2,080 ha that will have a measurable benefit for over 13 extant threatened animal species and allow for the reintroduction of up to 9 threatened mammals, including up to 3 native mammal species currently listed as extinct in New South Wales.

How will the feral predator-free area be established?
The establishment of Nungatta feral predator-free area (2,080 ha) involves 2 stages:
- Stage 1 – creation of a 240 ha-area nested within the larger feral predator-free area. This stage is complete.
- Stage 2 – creation of the larger area encompassing 1,840 ha of South East Forest National Park. This stage is nearing completion.
The same key steps are followed for establishing each of the 10 feral predator-free areas (see Ten feral predator-free areas for more information).
