Meet the new chair of the Murray Lower Darling Environmental Water Advisory Group

David Thurley has been appointed the new chair of the Murray Lower Darling Environmental Water Advisory Group.

David brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the position.

He holds a Bachelor of Science (Honours) and has worked as the technical manager for Australian Newsprint Mills. Following this, he established his own consultancy specialising in environmental matters and industrial wastewater treatment. His consultancy work has taken him worldwide, working on projects in various countries, including Brazil, Canada, France, Greece, Malaysia, and the United Kingdom.

David has served as a Councillor at Albury City Council since 2012 and has been actively involved in various committees, including Murray Arts, the Murray Art Museum Albury advisory committee, the Heritage Working Group and the council's audit risk and improvement committee.

Additionally, he has held the roles of national president and chair of Region 1 of the Murray Darling Association.

'I'm particularly interested in the junction between water, the environment and the community,' Mr Thurley said.

Murray Lower Darling Senior Environmental Water Manager Paul Childs said he was looking forward to working with Mr Thurley. He noted, 'David is following a series of outstanding Environmental Water Advisory Group chairs, and considering his credentials and experience, he will be a tremendous addition to our team.'

Beyond his work in council, David is also the President of the Astronomical Society of Albury Wodonga and volunteers as a science teacher in small local schools.
