Perisher Range and Charlotte Pass Snow Resort Environmental Management System

Find out what your environmental management obligations are as a business owner in the ski areas and villages in the Perisher Range Resorts and Charlotte Pass Snow Resort.

The Perisher Range Resorts and Charlotte Pass Snow Resort are located in one of Australia's most sensitive environments.

For that reason, the Environmental Management System (EMS) helps operators within the resorts reduce their environmental impacts and risks.

The EMS puts in place procedures and mechanisms that protect the environment and minimise impact from resort activities. It adopts a strong philosophy of continual improvement.

The operators of Perisher Range Resorts and Charlotte Pass Snow Resort aim to be widely recognised for exemplary environmental management of the area’s natural, cultural, aesthetic and social values in their national park setting. They believe in sustainable recreation development that respects, conserves, enhances and restores those values.

Environmental performance report

Each year the National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) reports on the data from all the resort environmental management systems, including the including the Perisher Range Resort and Charlotte Pass Snow Resort lessee EMS.

For the latest report, see the NSW Alpine Resorts Environmental Performance Report 2019–20.

EMS lodges

The Lodge Environment Manual helps Perisher Range and Charlotte Pass lodges fulfil their obligations under the EMS.

The term 'lodge' means accommodation such as ski clubs and lodges, chalets, commercial lodges, apartments and hotels.

The manual includes information on:

  • environmental risks
  • potential impacts on the environment
  • EMS requirements: what lodges need to do to minimise risks and manage impacts
  • reporting requirements: how lodges show they’re fulfilling the objectives and targets of the EMS.
Pollution incident reporting

In the event of a pollution incident in the Kosciuszko National Park, you must complete and submit this online reporting form no later than 7 days after the incident.
