Natural capital and economics

Our economic research seeks to incorporate our natural assets into government decision making.

Natural capital is being integrated into decisions being made by government and the private sector to develop a thriving economy and environment.

Through our economic research we:

  • help decision-makers, NSW agencies and businesses better understand how both the economy and the environment can be included in the bottom line
  • apply the detailed rules needed for well-functioning markets through a new field of economics known as ‘market design’
  • quantify community preferences and the services nature provides by understanding the value people put on improvements and initiatives that involve nature, such as going to the beach or visiting a national park.
